Job Description
As a Trainee Software Engineer at HSBC, you’ll be at the forefront of Java program development, working diligently to meet project timelines. Your responsibilities will include both automation and manual testing activities, ensuring the quality and reliability of our software solutions. You’ll also have the chance to present your comprehensive Java designs to the Product Owner, collect valuable user feedback, and continuously enhance your design solutions.
We expect you to maintain a clear and comprehensive component structure that takes into account factors like adaptability to change, microservices design, non-functional requirements (performance, security, audit, etc.), user behavior analytics, deployment in multiple cloud vendors, and suitability for DevOps adoption. Additionally, you’ll simplify development with a common library and code generation, and design an automation testing framework using testing tools.

Your role will involve detailed requirements analysis, the development and maintenance of reusable automated test scripts, and ensuring traceability between requirements and test scripts. You’ll also prepare data tables for automated tests and utilize utilities and tools to support testing while adhering to the relevant organizational processes.
Requirements:
To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of Java, Selenium, testing methodologies, Confluence, and JIRA.
- An organized mindset with the ability to work under pressure in a multi-functional, matrix environment.
- The capability to understand application requirements and design test scripts accordingly.
- Expertise in test automation tools and proficiency in automation testing techniques.
- Experience in AS400 is preferred but not mandatory.
- Understanding of the banking and finance domain is a plus.
- Familiarity with relevant technology domains and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A collaborative team player eager to learn new skills and capable of automating testing for various applications, including web-based, API, AS400 screens, PDF, and Excel/Notepad operations.
- The ability to identify test scenarios for automation.
